Role Of Different Environmental Agencies
Various environmental agencies play an important crucial role in preserving biodiversity. They implement different regulations and strategies to conserve the local as well as global ecosystems. These strategies are tailor-made to suit the specific needs of each ecosystem so that they remain healthy.
They are responsible for the restoration of habitats, identifying and protecting the endangered flora and fauna, and monitoring ecological changes happening in these ecosystems to help maintain their balance.
Different Environmental Agencies
Here are some of the national and international environmental for the management of ecosystems.
FAO – Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations
A special agency of the UN was established to improve food production, nutrition, and health of people.
IUCN – International Union for Conservation of Nature & Natural Resources
An autonomous body founded in 1948 with its headquarters at Morgs, Switzerland. It initiates and promotes scientifically based conservation measures to protect wild animals, plants, and other resources.
UNEP – United Nations Environment Program
A United Nations agency is responsible for cooperation of intergovernmental measures for environmental monitoring and protection. It was set up in 1972 to study and formulate international guidelines for the management of the environment.
There is a voluntary fund arranged by the UN to finance various environmental projects. There is an environment coordination board to coordinate various programs arranged by the UN. Its headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya.
UNESCO – United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organisation
It is an agency founded in 1945 to support and implement the efforts of member states to promote education, scientific research and information, and arts to develop cultural aspects of world relations.
It also holds conferences and seminars, promotes research and exchange of information, and provides technical support. The headquarters is in Paris. The agency works either independently or in collaboration with other environmental agencies like UNEP to support activities related to environmental quality, human settlements, training for environmental engineers, and other socio-cultural programs related to the environment.
