Life Processes NCERT Exemplar Solutions

Life processes are essential functions that living organisms perform to maintain their existence and ensure growth and reproduction. In the NCERT Exemplar Solutions for Class 10 Science, the topic “Life Processes” focuses on various activities that define life, including nutrition, respiration, transportation, and excretion.

  • Nutrition is the process by which organisms obtain energy and nutrients. It is classified into two types: autotrophic and heterotrophic. Autotrophic nutrition occurs in plants, where they produce their own food through photosynthesis. Heterotrophic nutrition is seen in animals and humans, who rely on other organisms for their nutritional needs.
  • Respiration is the biological process in which glucose is broken down to release energy. There are two types of respiration: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic respiration occurs in the presence of oxygen, while anaerobic respiration takes place without oxygen. This process provides the energy required for various metabolic activities.
  • Transportation in plants and animals ensures the distribution of nutrients, water, and oxygen throughout the body. In plants, the xylem and phloem tissues help in transporting water and food, respectively. In humans, the circulatory system, comprising the heart, blood, and blood vessels, plays a crucial role in transporting oxygen and nutrients to different parts of the body.
  • Excretion is the process by which organisms remove waste products generated from metabolic activities. In plants, waste products are excreted through stomata and other structures, while in animals, organs such as kidneys, lungs, and skin play a significant role in excretion.

NCERT Exemplar Solutions for Life Processes provides detailed explanations, diagrams, and practice questions to help students understand these essential concepts. These solutions also clarify complex processes and encourage students to develop problem-solving skills by tackling a variety of questions. For Class 10 students, mastering these concepts is crucial as they form the foundation for advanced studies in biology.
