  • i ) Inflation

2. Distinguish between cephalocaudal and proximodistal development.

Ans:  Cephalocaudal development – Head to toe

Proximodistal development – Centre of the body to the ends.

3. Write one similarity and one difference between DWCRA and MGNERGA.

Ans:  (i) Similarity – Development of rural areas

(ii) Difference: DWCRA – It is for the development of women and children in rural areas by generating self-employment, whereas MGNREGA is for the development of all the people in rural areas by generating wage employment.

4. Mention two reasons why adolescents are vulnerable to depression.

Ans:  Adolescents are vulnerable to depression because –

  • (i) Negative life experiences and events during adolescent years.
  • (ii) Worried about self and future.

5. How can college-going Shruti increase her real income?

Ans:  Ways to increase real income by college going, Shruti, are –

  • (i) By using community facilities
  • (ii) By using her skills, she can either stitch her clothes or take tuition classes.

6. Why should detergents be preferred over soap?

Ans:  Detergents should be preferred over soap because –

  • (i) It can be used in both hard and soft water.
  • (ii) They do not leave soap scum on the tub or clothes.

7. Ramesh has diarrhea and constipation in patients at home. What differences can he make when cooking food for both these patients?

Ans:

(i) Low fiber food

High fiber food.

(ii) Start from a liquid diet and then move to

semisolid diet.

12. You notice various pests in your kitchen. In what four ways could you have prevented

your kitchen the pests come from?

Ans:  Prevention of pests from the kitchen-

  • i) Wire mesh on windows and doors.
  • ii) Drains should have cockroach traps.
  • iii) Regular spray of pesticides.
  • iv) All corners, crevices, or cracks should be sealed.

13. Suggest to an affluent family about any one latest methods of water purification they

should use in the home, with its one advantage and one limitation.

Ans:  Method of water purification –

  • Reverse osmosis: Mechanical pressure is applied to an impure solution to force pure water through a semi-permeable membrane.
  • Advantages – It kills all the microorganisms
  • Limitation: Water wastage

14. Illustrate any three designs for the sleeve of a kurta for a girl/boy who has thin arms,

using elements of design.

Ans:  Fig.. Any suitable figure.

  • i) Horizontal lines make the area appear larger.
  • ii) Puffed sleeves give the impression of fullness.
  • iii)  Big prints or embroidery on the sleeves.

15. A family purchases food items from the local market. Nowadays, their ten-year-old boy is suffering from skin rashes and edema that the doctor has ascribed to his food intake. What could be the reason for it, and write what other two symptoms can be observed in him? Give three steps to prevent it.

Ans:  Reason – consuming adulterated food with argemone.

Two other symptoms –

  • i) Kidney failure
  • ii) Gastrointestinal disturbances/irregular fever

Three steps to prevent it –

  • i. Buy sealed and packed food items
  • ii. Purchase from a reputable shop
  • iii. Buy reputed brands that have genuine standardized marks
  • iv. Read the label carefully (any 3)

16. How are new responsibilities added at middle adulthood, and how do the people of this

age group cope with them?

19. When you buy a shirt for yourself, how will you decide on it by keeping in mind the

quality, workmanship, season, and drape? Give two points for each of the above-mentioned

concerns.

  • i)Collars – It should lie flat on the bodice.

20. Your mother has to buy Gold from the market. These days, numerous brands are

advertising about their product and the Government has also put a standard mark on the Gold items to make them more reliable. Draw the standard mark your mother should look for on the gold item and compare between the consumer aids and standard marks by giving their two benefits and one drawback.

21. Mr. Singh earns Rs. 70,000/- from his shop, owns a house in a good locality, has domestic help for household chores, and is satisfied with saving Rs. 20,000/- every month. Identify and define the different types of income of Mr. Singh by observing the above-mentioned statement.

Ans:  i) Earns Rs. 70,000 is money income

  • Money income – All the income received in the form of money or cash in terms of currency is termed as money income.

ii) Lives in own house is real direct income

  • Real Direct income – It consists of those material goods and services available to the family members without spending money.

iii) Domestic help is real indirect income

  • Real indirect income – It consists of those material goods and services that are available to the family only after some means of exchange (mainly money) is involved.

iv) Satisfied with saving Rs 20,000

  • Psychic Income – It refers to the satisfaction derived from the use of money and the real income.

23. ‘Nutritional needs and food preferences of an individual affect meal planning’. Support

this statement with two examples each. Mention two points you will keep in mind while

planning a meal for a preschooler.

Ans:  Nutritional needs

Two examples –

  • i) Type of occupation – Sedentary worker needs fewer calories as compared to moderate and heavy workers.
  • ii) Physiological state – Pregnant and lactating women have a higher calorie requirement as compared to a normal woman.

II. Food preferences

Two examples-

  • i) Some communities avoid the consumption of certain foods in their meals. For eg, Hindus do not eat beef.
  • ii) People of Punjab prefer wheat, whereas South Indians prefer rice.

III. Meal for preschoolers-

  • ii) An appealing and attractive meal should be served.

24. Describe any five problems faced by consumers while purchasing goods, vegetables, and grocery items from the market. Also write three rights and two duties of an alert

consumer in this context.

25. Neha took out her silk sari with a golden zari border from the cupboard and found border had turned black and had holes in it. What could be the possible reasons for both, and also tell her six precautions she should take while storing silk?

Ans:   Possible reasons for –

  • Black zari border – Use of naphthalene ball turned zari (brocade) black.
  • Holes – Carpet beetles have attacked the sari.

Precautions for storage of sari-

  • i) Dry clean the sari before storing it.
  • ii) It should be wrapped in clean white sheets or muslin cloth.
  • iii) They should be aired occasionally and refolded in the opposite direction.
  • iv) Naphthelene balls should never be used.
  • v) Keep the saris in dry and insect-proof boxes.
  • vi) Insert tissue paper between folds to prevent creases.
