Ans:   While running a business, one problem or the other may arise every day. The entrepreneur has to be vigilant so as to identify the problems and solve them as early as possible. This requires hard work on the part of the entrepreneur. In some situations, the person may even have to work for the whole night.

17. How can the smoke detector be helpful to detect smoke and toxic gases ? 2

Ans: A smoke detector works by monitoring the air for particles of smoke, i.e., the minute particles produced by combustion. Smoke detectors do not detect flame, heat, or gases.

   

18. As a human being you are living in society. What kind of social problems can arise due to stress? 2

Ans: If we do not manage stress, it can lead to social problems such as

  • 1. Fire drills.
  • 2. Drills on the use of rescue equipment like ropes and knots, stretchers, fire extinguishers,
  • and first aid kits.
  • 3. Drills on the use of flotation devices.
  • 4. Drills on the use of Personal Protection Equipment.  

21. If you discover fire at any place, then what action should you take? 3

Ans: The person who discovers the fire should:

  • Contact the telephone operator or the fire station immediately.
  •  Give his/her name, exact location, size, and type of fire.
  • If the phone is not working, then break the glass of the nearby manual call box to activate the fire alarm.
  • Remove all possible combustible material from the vicinity of the fire.
  • With the assistance of colleagues, try to control the fire in the manner he/ she has been taught in the fire training, or wait until the fire fighting team arrives on the scene.

23. Janvi is a healthcare provider. She is working in a reputed hospital. She is responsible to prepare the patient before surgery. Mrs. Manju is admitted in hospital for appendicitis operation. Janvi has to get Mrs. Manju ready for the surgical procedure. Enumerate the points on how Janvi can prepare Mrs. Manju before the surgical procedure. 4

Ans:

  • The surgical site hair is usually removed.
  • The patient is asked to take a bath in including the surgical site.
  • The patient is given a clean gown that opens on the back.
  • Lipstick and nail polish are removed one day before.
  • The head is covered with a triangular bandage or a cap so that all hairs are covered.
  • Dentures, spectacles, or contact lenses, and ornaments are removed.
  • 8. The patient is asked to pass urine before the operation.
  • The drugs prescribed to be given pre-operatively are given.
  • Appropriate records are maintained by the drug administration.

24. This is a major precaution, which embodies the control of the source of heat and elimination or isolation of obviously dangerous fuels. Adhering to precautions saves not only consequential losses but also helps in maintaining continuity in operations. Enumerate some preventive measures that can be followed to get rid of fire. 4

Ans: Some of the preventive measures that are to be followed strictly have been mentioned

below:

  • Do not compromise on implementing norms and standards.
  • Develop a No-Smoking discipline.
  • Do not leave liquid fuel unattended.
  • Prevent unauthorized electrical connections and usage of unauthorized electrical apparatus.
  • Store all fuels / flammable stores in a safe place.
  • Establish a fire preparedness plan that takes care of prevention, response, and recovery, and keep it updated periodically.
  • Designate an emergency coordinator and a team, and assign responsibilities to employees to initiate the plan.
  • Keep your housekeeping up-to-date, preventing the accumulation of garbage or waste materials.  
  • Upgrade the facility to meet the required fire codes mentioned in the National Building Code (NBC) of India.
  • Ensure a preventive maintenance programme for operational equipment and make sure that the equipment meets the specifications and standards.
  • Develop a mutual programme with neighbouring establishments for such Emergencies.

In too many schools, working long hours is equated with working hard. If you leave on time, you may often decrease efficiency and productivity. The rewards will be the ability to control your workload and more time to focus on the most important aspects of your activities. What are the basic strategies to use time wisely? 4

Ans:

  • Priorities: You probably have a lot of things to do, so assess how important and how urgent the tasks are; then make sure high-priority tasks get done first and are not put off regularly.
  • Be specific: Make the task as specific as possible.
  • Subtasking: It is easy to do small tasks. Try breaking tasks down into smaller subtasks.
  • Use all available time: This is a especially good strategy if you are pressed for time.
  • Structure the environment: Find a place, preferably one you can use regularly and with limited distractions.  
  • Establish a routine: We are creatures of habit. Use time management and scheduling tools to establish a routine.
